Music Monday – Tori Kelly

Tori Kelly

I have been bopping away to the musical stylings of Tori Kelly recently and wanted to share some of my favourite songs with you guys. So, here goes:

This song, Unbreakable Smile, never fails to put a smile on my face! The tune itself just gets you moving, but if you really listen to the words, they have a great message that a lot of people (especially those in the lime-light) should really listen to. She is promising to stay strong and not become one of those singers who follows what she is told to do just to get more press/album sales/etc. And I especially like where she says “And baby who knows maybe I can sell out shows without taking off my clothes, God made me sexy I don’t care if only I know”, this is definitely something that everyone needs to hear – we don’t need to go around wearing little to no clothing to be sexy, we can be more gorgeous/handsome by wearing slightly more modest clothing.

You are sure to have a boogie to this one, I even dance a little sat at my desk at my day job when I listen to this one. Love it!

I like this song as well, Dear No One, because it has a great message like Unbreakable Smile. It’s about being okay with not having an other half, but not completely giving up hope that you’re going to be single forever. She sings “I’m done lookin’, for my future someone, Cause when the time is right, You’ll be here”. Yes, its leaving it up to ‘fate’ or whatever, but you often do find the person who is right for you out of the blue and when you least anticipate it, it’s not about searching for them.

I love Tori’s voice in this song, I feel it really showcases her voice. Have a listen to the power in some of her notes, and in contrast how gently she can sing some sections. True artist in my eyes.

I love when artists collaborate on songs, and this one with the mix of Tori and Ed Sheeran is just beautiful! A bit more acoustic than some of their songs, but it is a perfect blend for them.

I’m going to end this post with another collab that Tori Kelly has done, this time with Professor Green. This is a beautiful song, and I often have it on repeat. Have a listen for me, and just enjoy the contrast of Tori’s sweet voice with Prof Green’s rapping.

What music are you currently listening to? We’d love to know, especially the songs you have on repeat! Share them with us in the comments below!

Workout Wednesday – Week 15

Hi all and welcome back to Workout Wednesday!

This week we have a bit of a theme starting here at PoppyRoseBlog.

And that theme is………..

DANCE!

Kinda follows from the previous Workout Wednesday, but this week we are going to explore all kinds of dance, not just Zumba.

We like to move it and shake it with the best of them, but the guys and gals in the videos below really are the best of them!!!

First up we have these guys from Japan dancing in the dark in suits that light up! This is not only a great show, but an amazing demonstration of how dancers have to be in perfect sync with each other & how timing each step has to be exact. Without discipline, these dancers would end up being booed off the stage. Instead, they dance the night away!

I love this dance from SYTYCD choreographed by Nappytabs. It is such a lovely, fun dance – and I sincerely wish I could dance like this!

This dance from the new Fame film is really great, putting some great moves to a fun song!

There are plenty of dance films out there, but I think this dance from Step Up 4 is really great! Showing that dance, even contemporary and hip hop, can be an art form!

This commercial shows the differences between Ballet and Hip Hop, but also highlights how both can blend together to create a great dance piece. And the tag line at 1:10 – “Dance is …” – all those things that scroll past truly describe what it is like to dance!

This is a clip from the film Take The Lead with Antonio Banderas. It is a fantastic film with some great ballroom dancing. In the film there Banderas who plays Pierre Dulaine says this to one of the students:

Pierre Dulaine: Do you love to dance?
Caitlin: Yeah
Pierre Dulaine: Then you’re meant to dance.

The quote has stuck with me ever since I first watched the film – because I do love to dance.

I think flash mob’s are great and this Irish Dancing one in Dublin Airport is fabulous – showing us the next generation of Riverdance! 😉

Here is another flash mob – this time, Chicago take’s over Oprah Winfrey’s Kick Off Party! It is truly amazing how so many people can get together, have fun and dance! Oprah was so taken aback by what was happening – it is just great to watch. Especially how it just starts with the one girl at the front of the audience!

And of course, we have to have the Evolution of Dance!

Classic video here – but a wonderful demonstration of ALL the big styles over the past few decades!

And last but not least we have the very lovely Ed Sheeran…

A beautiful mix of contemporary and ballroom dance – and a fab song as well!

So, thanks for popping by to see us this week.

Come back on Friday to see our Favorite Things. This week we have a guest poster showing us their favorite pins.

Until then…

Keep Dancing

Music!

What is that one song that you can put on repeat and listen to over and over again?

For me it is Ed Sheeran’s ‘I See Fire’. I love listening to it! It is such a soothing song for me, I can literally listen to it for hours on end and it’s fast becoming the most listened to song on my iTunes playlist. I was listening to it this week and couldn’t help but dance to it round my little flat. It was refreshing, to feel free and able to move without having anyone watch and judge.

Listening to this song also helps me when I am being creative; whether I am writing, painting or doodling. There is something about the lyrics as well as the music that just allows me to let go of my insecurities when I am working, and lets me feel free to create instinctively.

Here is a link to it so you can listen and enjoy it! I hope it can help you free your creative juices!
